Date: February 6, 2018 (4:00 -7:30) Setting up and take down will be before and after event times
Where: Multicultural Centre. 421-6th Ave S
Each volunteer opportunity is located at the Multicultural Centre, 421-6th Ave S which is both wheelchair friendly and close to public transit.
If people desire, you can take their coats and give them a number to hold onto in order to get their coats back when they leave. This will be done during the event.
There will be clickers or counters available to each volunteer and the individuals will click everytime a new person walks in, being careful not to count some twice or band members. This will be done during the event.
The volunteers will be greeting the newcomers as they come in, please keep in mind that many may not understand English so you must have positive body language. As well, signing in VIP’s (Mayor, MLA, MP), and handing each newcomer a “swag bag” which contains important resource information and other goodies. This will be done during the event.
During this event we will be encouraging newcomers to place a marker on a map to identify what part of the world they are from. This will be near the front door so it will be busy, and again newcomers may not speak English, so it will require positive body language and possibly a demonstration on what to do. This will be done during the event.
This is a large event so we require four volunteers to help us set up tables and chairs for the event. This volunteer opportunity will have to be prior to the event, either in the morning or the day before. Please contact us for more details in you are interested.
We will need help from volunteers to help us take down tables and chairs. This will have to be done after 7:30 when everyone has left.
Buidling swag bags:
There will be approximately 400-500 people at this event, so we need multiple people to help us make enough goodie bags for each newcomer. This will have to be done in the week leading up to the event, please contact us so we can schedule a time that best fits your schedule.
We will have a canvas for the kids to paint on, so we need two volunteers at least to supervise this project. They will be in a seperate room with a canvas on the floor, but the possibily of getting paint on the carpet, walls, or doors still exist. This will be done during the event.
