What is the Leaders of Tomorrow Awards Gala?
Leaders of Tomorrow is an event that provides the community with an opportunity to recognize youth (ages 5-24) who have made outstanding contributions to their community through volunteerism! Youth who meet eligibility criteria are nominated for either Volunteer Recognition or the Volunteer Excellence Award. All nominees are celebrated for their volunteer contribution to the community at our annual recognition event which is held during National Volunteer Week.
What is the difference between the Volunteer Recognition Award and the Volunteer Excellence Award?
The Volunteer Recognition Award recognizes youth, between 5 – 24 years of age, who live, volunteer or attend school within a 28 km. radius of Lethbridge and has demonstrated an exceptional level of dedication and leadership while inspiring the spirit of volunteerism in others through volunteer service within the community. All nominees are invited as guests of Volunteer Lethbridge to the Gala that is held during National Volunteer Week. They receive 2 complimentary tickets which includes their meal and an evening of celebration and fun!
The Volunteer Excellence Award is designed to recognize youth, between 5 – 24 years of age who live, volunteer or attend school within a 28 km. radius of Lethbridge who have gone above and beyond in demonstrating dedication and leadership while inspiring the spirit of volunteerism in others through volunteer service within the community. Individuals nominated for the Volunteer Excellence Award will be eligible for a scholarship, as well as receive a personalized plaque, complimentary professional photos, and an interview with Dory Rossiter . All nominees are invited, as guests of Volunteer Lethbridge, to a recognition event that will be held during National Volunteer Week.
Who can nominate a youth for the Leaders of Tomorrow program?
Anyone can nominate an individual to be recognized as Leader of Tomorrow. You can be a friend, a co-worker, a volunteer manager/coordinator, a teacher, an advisor, a coach, a religious leader, a supervisor, a recipient of a volunteer service. The only exception is that nominations can not be made by a volunteer’s parent/guardian or immediate relative.
How many nominations can I submit?
There is no limit to the number of individuals that you can nominate for Recognition or Excellence. Nor is there a fee to submit a nomination. However, we require a separate nomination submission for each individual nominated. Please ensure each nomination form is complete with supporting documents and includes the signature of the nominee (parent/guardian signature is required if the nominee is under 18 years of age).
How do I submit nominations?
Nominations may be submitted by email, mail, fax, or dropped off in person.

Are there age restrictions for the Leaders of Tomorrow program nominees?
Yes, nominees must be at least 5 years of age by the nomination deadline date and not have reached their 25th birthday by the nomination deadline date.
Can a youth be nominated more than once?
Yes, a youth can receive an award more than once. However, each nominee can receive only one (1) award in each age category. Additionally, in order to qualify for a second award, the nominator must demonstrate that the youth has surpassed their previous volunteer commitment.
When is the nomination deadline date?
The nomination deadline date for Leaders of Tomorrow 2018 is Wednesday, February 28, 2018.
Is there a fee to nominate a youth for the Leaders of Tomorrow program?
No, there is absolutely no fee required to nominate a youth for the Leaders of Tomorrow program!
How are nominees selected to receive the Volunteer Excellence Award?
The Leaders of Tomorrow selection committee, comprising of volunteers from the community, meet and review nominations that have been submitted for the Volunteer Excellence Award. The selection committee utilizes established baseline criteria to evaluate dedication and excellence as exhibited through volunteer involvement of each individual. The selection committee relies on the information submitted by the nominators and look for: The nominee’s roles/capacities as a volunteer demonstrated leadership in their capacity as a volunteer, evidence of personal growth and development, impact that the nominee has had on the community/organization(s), positive influences and ability to inspire volunteerism in others, longevity of nominee’s placement/involvement, range and scope of volunteer activities , and demonstration of values of the nominee. Nominees for the Volunteer Excellence Award are required to meet the requirements of the Volunteer Excellence Award Nomination Form which includes a one page letter from someone other than the nominator, which details how the nominee’s volunteering actions have demonstrated leadership, initiative, character, dedication, and inspiration of others. Nominations are evaluated and compared to other nominees within the same age category.
How much do tickets cost?
Each nominee will receive two (2) complimentary tickets. Extra tickets may be purchased for $30 each.
Where is the gala being hosted?
The Leaders of Tomorrow Gala will be hosted at Lethbridge Lodge Hotel and Conference center. It is located at 320 Scenic Drive South.
Are special diets accommodated?
Yes, special diets will be accommodated. To ask for a special meal please inform us when you purchase your ticket(s).
How is seating arranged?
Seating is a first come first serve basis, excluding reserved seating for Excellence Award Nominees and their guests. Excellence Award Nominees and their guests will have assigned seating.
Is there a dress code?
Yes, dress code is smart casual
How long is the event?
The event will be around 2 ½ hours, depending on how many nominees there are.
How does Volunteer Lethbridge cover the costs of the Leaders of Tomorrow program?
The Leaders of Tomorrow program would not be possible without the support and assistance from individuals, businesses, corporations, foundations, service clubs and the City of Lethbridge. Financial support, volunteer time, donated products, services and media support all contribute to the success of the Leaders of Tomorrow Event.
Can individuals donate to the Leaders of Tomorrow program?
Yes, individuals can donate money, time or talents to Leaders of Tomorrow. Charitable Tax Receipts are issued by Volunteer Lethbridge to individuals who donate money to the Leaders of Tomorrow. Individuals who would like to volunteer their time can participate on the Leaders of Tomorrow committee and, if you have a special talent, we can utilize your talent/skills and ensure that the Leaders of Tomorrow Event is successful and memorable.
How can an individual, a company or a corporation become a sponsor of Leaders of Tomorrow?
Today’s youth are indeed the Leaders of Tomorrow and your company/corporation can become involved in this community program as a sponsor. There are several sponsorship levels including: Partnership, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Friends of Volunteer Lethbridge. Your financial contribution or gift-in-kind donation will help ensure that the Leaders of Tomorrow program will continue to grow and recognize the socio-economic contributions and the enhanced quality of life that these young volunteers bring to the community.You can sponsor the event or make a donation to Leaders of Tomorrow, all individuals, companies or corporations will be recognized for their contribution.
