About the Position
Position: Summer Reading Tent Summer Student
Description: We are currently seeking a hardworking, creative and flexible summer student to help us run our Summer Reading Tent Program throughout the summer.

The Reading Tent Summer Student will work with existing staff to help plan and facilitate a series of Reading Tents for children aged 5 – 12. Reading Tents aim to reduce the “summer learning loss” that occurs between the end of one school year and the beginning of the next. Focusing on literacy in a broad sense (reading, writing, listening, and storytelling), the Reading Tent Staff engage children in fun and inclusive activities based on diverse learning styles and reading levels. Reading Tent sessions use themes such as, the environment, STEM concepts and being physically active to engage learners in crafts, reading circles, and movement-based activities
Responsibilities: Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Work within a team to create, organize, and implement engaging literacy activities;
• Act as an ambassador to local children’s programs and community events in predominantly under-served and high-need communities in Lethbridge;
• Assist with the procurement and coordination of reading tent supplies;
• Assist and supervise volunteers;
• Help track, document and report Reading Tent statistics

Qualifications: Terms: This position is sponsored by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant and as such, the successful applicant must meet the following conditions:
• be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
• have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
