Position: Summer Reading Tent Volunteer - Summer Reading Tents

The purpose of the Summer Reading Tent program is to promote reading and literacy during the summer months in a fun and engaging way! Over the summer we will be running daily Reading Tents in partnership with community organizations and festivals. These tents run primarily on weekdays for 2 to 3 hours and we need volunteers who have a love of reading - time commitment is flexible.

Frontier College volunteers and staff will set up the tent, open with a warm up activity, run a reading circle, and afterwards move into a book themed activity or craft.
Description: Volunteer Characteristics
• Possess a love of reading and enjoy reading with children
• Comfortable with informal learning environments and settings (including sitting on the ground outside)
• Be available during the day time and able to travel to different parts of the city
• Be at least 16 years of age or older.

Volunteer Responsibilities
• Assist staff with setting up the reading tent and displaying the books
• Read one-on-one with children in the tent
• Assist staff with carrying out literacy games and activities
• Assist with taking down the reading tent and packing up the books
Required Information: Police Check: Required References Required
Training Details: Training will be provided beforehand and/or on-site.
Working Conditions: Summer, Outdoors, Indoors, Lethbridge, Southern Alberta
Minimum Duration: 6 months or less
Timing: Weekday - Daytime, Weekend - Daytime
Time Detail: Most tents are scheduled during the daytime hours of the week, however some special events and other tents will occasionally be scheduled on the weekend or in the early evening.
